006 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD (CONCLUSION)

Be sure to look to the Lord to open these truths of His to you…

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11).

Through this series of mini studies on Integrity we have seen the enormous value that the Lord places on our being honest with Him. There is no higher virtue in our personal response to the Lord than that we are honest with Him. Perhaps the rightful response that the Lord is looking for from all is best expressed as integrity / honesty leading to complete obedience.

At no age in the Lord’s dealings with man since our first parents, has the Lord accepted half-hearted responses to Him from people. When people have responded to Him, the call was to respond with all of their heart, soul and mind to Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5  Trust in the LORD with ALL THINE HEART; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6  IN ALL THY WAYS acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Deuteronomy 6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God WITH ALL THINE HEART, AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND WITH ALL THY MIGHT.

1 Corinthians 10:31  Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

With the Lord we are either for Him, or against Him, there is no in between that He accepts. The Lord calls us to make up our minds! He will not save the soul that has an undecided attitude towards Him. Hense the Scripture that we have quoted a number of times …

Acts 20:21  Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, REPENTANCE TOWARD GOD, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

When our faith in Christ is not accompanied by our being repentant towards the Lord, there is no salvation, we are not born again. We must be willing to yield ourselves under the Lord’s authority, and resist the continual temptation to do as we please. This yielding is not to a church but to the Lord Himself.

GOD’S TRUTH

We have also spent much time looking at the fact that when we respond to the Lord in pure, undefiled honesty. We will discover that the Lord is also not undecided from His side. That He has always been clear, and precise in His requirements for His children. That no matter what period in our world’s history that we look at. The Lord always communicated His will to those people. i.e. People have always been given God’s will for themselves – His Truth. And that He was always clear to them that He expected them to keep His revealed will, and did not allow them liberty to adjust His will.

This fact has been so precious to God’s children as it has always allowed them to know where they stand with the Him. When they have taken adequate time to learn His will, and get it clear in their understanding. They have had the comfort of always knowing whether or not they have been living according to His will or not. None have ever needed to be uncertain. Praise God for that!

A really important truth that follows from the facts that the Lord requires our dealings with Him to be honest, and that He has provided us with His specific will in the Scriptures. Is that, though our world is very confused as to what that truth is in our day, His Truth is definitely discoverable. We do not have to wait for after this life, in uncertainty, nor presumption, for the Lord to either accept or reject us, to find out if we have been accepted by Him or not.

Matthew 25:23  His lord said unto him, WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: ENTER THOU INTO THE JOY OF THY LORD.

Or …

Matthew 7:22-23
22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23  And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: DEPART FROM ME, ye that work iniquity.

From tomorrow, the Lord willing, we will start to look at how the Lord has provided for us to get to know His Truth to us in the Church age. So that all those who will walk with Him in integrity and obedience WILL COME TO KNOW HIS TRUTH for themselves. And will not have to only hope that they have been born again, but learn how to KNOW FOR CERTAINTY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN BORN AGAIN, as the lord intends for us to know. And then know with certainty what daily life with the Lord is, and what service to the Him is while still in this world.

005 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD

God is the Author of the Christian Faith. The Church is not the product of believers’ efforts through the last 2000 years. And as in the previous ages that we have considered in our studies of ‘God’s Truth’, the Lord has been clear in what true Faith is in the Church age as well. And how He calls us to live and serve in the Faith, as He has instructed us through the New Testament revelation for the Church.

The Disciples Were Promised That The Holy Spirit Would Guide Them Into All Truth

John 16:12-15
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The Lord Jesus, before He left our world, promised that He would send the Holy Spirit Whom He called the“Comforter”, and the “Spirit of truth”. The Lord told His disciples that He had many things to say to them, but they were not able to “bear them” yet. They would not be able to understand them yet. The promised “Spirit of truth” would be their guide “into all truth”.

The Holy Spirit would not only reveal these truths, but would also open their understanding of the truths. They did not have the Holy Spirit in them yet. After Pentecost all who have been born again have the Holy Spirit within them, to guide them in properly understanding God’s Truth. Even the Lord’s disciples needed to wait for the Spirit’s vital help in properly understanding God’s Truth. These truths that they would later receive would be the doctrines and purpose of the then future Church.

It is also significant that the Lord says that the Holy Spirit would guide them, “into ALL truth”. Meaning that He would give them ALL truth for the Church age. There would not be an on-going revelation of Truth during the Church age, but that they would be given ALL Truth. This is significant because there are those who claim to be getting direct revelation from God still today.

God’s Revelation Was To Be Followed Precisely

The Apostle’s Doctrine

The revealed purpose and doctrines for the Church were to be followed exactly as revealed. We are told that the young Church “continued stedfastly in the APOSTLE’S DOCTRINE.” i.e. They continued faithfully in the “Apostles’ doctrine”.

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Sound Doctrine

The term “sound doctrine” was coined referring to the accurate, faithful holding of the “apostle’s doctrine”:

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure SOUND DOCTRINE; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

i.e. Speak truth! What we say is either according to God’s Truth or according to error.

And so, just as with previous ages that we have considered, we see that once again the Lord clearly provides revelation of that which He requires that we believe and do as His children in the Church. And so it would be correct to say that “sound doctrine” is the “apostle’s doctrine”, or Truth – God’s Truth for the Church.

Non-Conformity To The Apostles’ Doctrine Rebuked

Those not following the “apostle’s doctrine” are soundly rebuked and warned against.

Apostasy Rebuked

Galatians 1:6-12
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Paul writes of “another gospel: which is not another gospel”, and of those who “pervert the gospel of Christ.”

V8 – 9/ When the early church was taught anything that was in conflict with that which they were already taught, they were to know that it was wrong! None may bring other teaching that contradicts that which they had received, NOT EVEN AN APOSTLE, nor may an angel from Heaven contradict that which they had received already from the apostles!

004 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD

Israel

They Must Keep The Whole Law

Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 5
1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Verse 1/ They must pay attention to the “statues and judgements” that Moses taught them, so that they could do them. Their obedience would ensure that they have life with God, and be able to go in and possess Canaan, God’s gift to them.

Verse 2/ To be sure that they got the point that they were to keep every law of God. They are told that they were not to add to nor take away from His Laws.

The last part of the verse says that it is dependent on their not adding to, nor taking away from the Law, that would determine whether or not they would be able to keep His commandments (Law). i.e. Adding to or taking away from the Laws that the Lord gave them would mean that they were not keeping His Law. They would be corrupting them and turning from His Truth.

No doubt to drive the point home, Moses repeats the commandment not to tamper with the Law – God’s Truth.

Deuteronomy 5:32-33
32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Again they are told that they were not to deviate from what the Lord had commanded them. They were to keep to the straight and narrow of His will – His Truth. They were not to turn aside to the left or to the right. God’s Truth may not be tampered with. History records the disaster that met Israel when they turned aside from His Truth. When the children of Israel were divided into two nations effectively. Israel and Judah, Judah being the two tribes that the Lord continued to have a relationship with. The other ten turned completely away from the Lord. They would not submit themselves to His Laws – His Truth. The Lord kept his promises to Abraham through the two tribes of Judah, and more importantly through whom the Lord would bring His promised Messiah. When they turned from obeying Him, the Lord gave them the space of 70 years to turn back to Him and His revealed will. Only when they refused to turn back to Him did He punish them by allowing them to be carried away into captivity by the Babylonians. Demonstrating that the Lord meant what He said about them keeping His commandments.

Note that it was never up to the Children of Israel. or individual, to decide what is right or wrong. They are told by the Lord through the Laws of Moses. Therefore, for the first time in history God’s children had His Truth recorded in a book. Truth that ultimately governed all peoples on the earth.

The Lord Was Passionate That Israel Keep His Laws (Statues And Judgments)

Deuteronomy 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!

In Deuteronomy 5:29 the Lord expresses His passion for Israel that they would from the heart have the appropriate respect for Him, as well as that they would keep all of His commands. Because it was dependant on their keeping all of the Lord’s commands that it would be well with them.

How we harm ourselves and hinder our usefulness in His kingdom when we refuse to obey from our hearts? When we neglect to examine His Commands to the Church in the New Testament, looking to the Holy Spirit to guide us into the His Truth for the Church. Many give only ‘lip-service’ (all talk and no action!) and have no passion for the Lord. The Lord hardly ever receives any of the love He calls for from His redeemed creatures (Deuteronomy 6:5).

This is not right! The Lord help you to be one of the few who are constantly developing in their knowledge of Him and love for Him.

Deuteronomy 6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

003 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD

In Genesis 4 is the account of Cain and Abel’s sin offerings to the Lord.

Genesis 4:1-7
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Adam and Eve’s sons, each made an offering to the Lord. Cain offered the best of his fruit and vegetable harvest no doubt. Able offered a young lamb from his flock. The fruit offering was rejected and the sacrificed lamb offering was accepted.

The difference between the attitudes towards the sin offerings was one of integrity. Both know God’s will and only one yielded to it. Cain was probably too proud to ask Able for a lamb for his offering. And Cain’s pride got between him and the Lord. He would not yield himself to the Lord and His known will.

The fruit offering was rejected because it was wrong. It had to be a young lamb without blemish (no damage). Because it’s shed blood had to picture Christ dying on a future cross shedding His blood for our sin, shedding His blood once for all time. Sacrificing fruit did not picture Christ shedding His blood for our sin, nor did it provide a temporary blood covering that the Lord required. Temporarily until the once and for all offering of Christ would permanently remove their sin.

It was that simple! Cain’s offering was wrong and Able’s offering was correct. Life with God is that simple. Everything is either right of wrong with the Lord. It is up to us to get to know and understand the Lord’s ways – His Truth as revealed in the Bible, by the vital leading of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14).

THE WORLD-WIDE FLOOD

At the time of the flood the world’s population had swelled to at least 1 billion people. The Lord saw that the people of the world’s actions and even their thoughts were evil continually.

Genesis 6:5-8
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

What made man wicked? By what judgment was man’s thoughts and heart judged wicked? Democratically among the people, the people’s actions would have been found acceptable. By individual’s own judgments their ‘wicked’ actions and thoughts would have been found normal, and therefore acceptable. Genesis 6 is God’s view of the people of the world’s actions and thoughts. Their thoughts and actions were wicked because they were in conflict with the Lord Himself and His standards. That is what sin is, attitudes and actions being in conflict with the Lord and His ways.

They were created to be like the Lord (His image Genesis 1:26) and to acknowledge His Lordship over them. Only one family were found to be righteous, or ‘like-the-Lord’, and that was Noah’s family. (Genesis 6:8) The Lord used that one family and animals saved with Noah’s family on the ark to repopulate the world. The Lord started over. The first ‘population’ had failed the opportunity of life with the Him that He had offered them. They had so turned from the Lord’s way, from His Truth, that the Lord decided to start over with the one family group that were still ‘like-Him’. The Lord started over again before the one remaining family were lost as well.

And so again we see, that though the Lord patiently put up with man’s wicked decisions to be independence from Him. He only allowed that rebellion against Him to go so far. People living independent of Him was not the Lord’s purpose for creating man. We were created to have life with Him. And we see the Lord once again not accepting man rejecting Him and His will – His Truth.

002 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD

The Garden Of Eden

Firstly, Adam’s responsibility given:

Genesis 2:15-16
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Secondly, the one thing Adam was not allowed to do:

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

After the Lord gave Adam his wife Eve, both knew what life was all about. They knew that they were living in God’s world, and had to live according to His ways. Otherwise they would not be in fellowship with Him. We could say that they knew God’s Truth: that He created everything, and what He required of them. Life was that simple at first, they didn’t have the endless temptations that we have in the world today.

When the serpent convinced Eve to eat from the ‘tree of the knowledge of good and evil’, and Eve persuaded Adam to do the same, both died spiritually (Genesis 3). The spiritual death meant a break in their relationship with Almighty God. Sin came between them and God. In the Garden of Eden was the tree of life, to which they – until then – had access to. If they had remained in fellowship with the Lord, they would have still had access to the tree of life. Now they would continue to age towards physical death.

WHAT IS VITAL TO NOTICE HERE is that the Lord did not compromise His Truth. That disobedience was unacceptable – was sin. The Lord did not say to them, ok I will allow you to change My commands to you in just this one case. No the Lord is God, He does not change, and He did not allow them to change His commands to them – in even one point. Their single sin brought sin into the world! And passed from Adam to their children, and each father thereafter passed the ‘stain’ of sin to his children ever since!

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

(We also know that the ‘sin nature’, called the “flesh” in many passages, is passed from father to children because of the virgin birth of Christ. The Lord Jesus would also be a sinner if He had a human father.)

If the Lord had ever allowed man any leniency in what He requires, here would be the place that that would surely have happened. This single sin caused every person born, to be born separate from their Creator. And on their way to an eternal hell. But the Lord did not compromise Himself and His commands. As already planned in His mind, the Lord had His Son in His plans, to at the right time die on a cross for man’s sin.

Why all this trouble you ask? This is because the Lord wants us each to very decisively choose, of our own free will, to respond to Him with all of our hearts, or to only respond ‘according to our own terms’, or not to respond to Him with any attempt at obedience to Him at all. And so the Lord had His plan of redemption right from the beginning.

Our first parents would remain eternally separated from the Lord unless a way was made for them to be reconciled to Him. The Lord was the only One Who could provide the way for them to be saved from the penalty of their sin. Right there and then the Lord provided a temporary measure to ‘cover’ their sins until the Lord would send His Son to die for all of mankind’s sin.

Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

The Lord killed some animals, probably two young lambs, to make clothing for them. The shedding of the blood of the animals temporarily covered their sin until God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, died for all once and for all. Also demonstrating that sin is a very serious matter. The fact that the life of an animal had to be taken was meant to drive this point home. From there on men offered young lambs as sin offerings to cover their sins. Example Able –

Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

Right from the beginning, after the fall of man in sin, the Lord taught them the principle of ‘without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.’

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

This removes the possibility of anyone earning forgiveness of sin. Sin must be cleansed by the shedding of blood.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This is Almighty God’s view, His perspective – His Truth.

The point being here that the Lord was not compromising in His commands to first man. And didn’t allow man to do so either.

001 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH IN THE MIND OF GOD

Malachi 3:6  “For I am the LORD, I change not; …”

The child of God who deals with their God with integrity will not be trying to see how far they can push their independence with their Father. Nor will they be focused on living the spiritual life with the Lord according to their preference. They will be passionately motivated to learn what their Father requires of them as His children. And so, like Christ will be going in a different direction than where the masses of people around them are going.

Matthew 7:13-14
13  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Our world is divided in culture, religion, politics, ‘sexual preference’, etc. Therefore, the unbeliever and carnal believers do not expect any ONE truth, or ONE right way, for all.

Multiple denominations and thousands of different churches, show how far from God the minds of believers, as well as unbelievers attending church meetings are from the Lord and His Truth. For this reason believers today approach the Christian faith as if it doesn’t matter what you believe. Their approach is that it is ok to ‘join-any-church-you-like’, and it doesn’t matter which.

‘Truth’ could simply be defined as what God sees, or His perspective. The Bible is God’s ‘detailed’ revelation of Himself, and His ways – of how He sees things. Through the Bible the Lord is saying:

  • I am the One Who Created and made everything
  • This is what I’m like
  • This is how the world began
  • This is who you are
  • This is how we (Almighty God and ourselves) MUST live together

We see this in …

CREATION

The Lord, God made everything. This is a literal truth. The Bible declares that everything was made by God.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The point I want to make here is that because everything was created by the Lord, the Lord is behind the DESIGN of everything. Put plainly, things are the way that they are because the Lord designed them to be that way.

Think of the implications of this truth! …

  • The earth is round and spinning because the Lord designed it to do that.
  • This spinning causes gravity that keeps us on the earth – because that is the way that the Lord designed it.
  • The moon rotates around the earth giving us light by night – because that is the way that the Lord designed it.
  • And we could go on and on describing life, and in every case we would need to note that all was because of the Lord’s design.
  • ULTIMATELY, THE SPIRITUAL LIFE – LIFE WITH THE LORD IN THIS WORLD – HAS ALSO BEEN DESIGNED BY HIM AND REVEALED THROUGH THE BIBLE. THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN IS NOT DEMOCRATIC; IT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE LORD HAS DESIGNED IT TO BE. WE NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE US INTO JUST WHAT THAT IS.

We could describe everything by the simple statement that there is God and His creation. Everything but God was created and designed by Him.

What is the point of all this? We are discussing Truth. We are in a fragmented world full of endless opinions as to what Truth is – ‘if there is such a thing’ some would say. We simplify this point by turning from man’s view – millions of conflicting opinions – to God’s view. He made everything and He is the only One with the right perspective of what Truth is. What He says is Truth. When He says that He is the only God, then that is the Truth. In order for there to be another god, He would have had to have created the other god.

This means that the Lord decides what is right and wrong. There is only Him and His creation. Who is there to argue with, or to challenge Him?

This means that the Lord decides what it will take for us to have a happy and fulfilled life in this world. The Lord has designed us to be happy and fulfilled only under His prescribed circumstances. This means that the Lord decides if there is life after this world. This means that the Lord decides what the requirements are for life with Him after this world. The testimony of the Bible is that Lord has been very specific and clear on what He requires of man since first man walked on this earth. And each ‘age’, that the Bible describes, had their specific requirements that the Lord revealed in order for them to have life with Him. And we will have a very brief look at that testimony in the coming mini Bible studies.
